The ocean depths roll quietly in deep blue layers as a tempest swirls above. Wind whips up a storm of fiery colors, sending red embers flying into the golden air. As I was painting this large abstract, the devastating fire was burning the Maui town of Lahaina. Somehow that event entered my subconscious and directed this painting to become what it is. Returning to the studio the following day, I saw the tempest I had painted. It seemed a fitting tribute to the people of Lahaina and all that they are still going through.

Original painting in oil paint with cold wax and alkyd gel on Baltic birch cradled panel.
Painting size: 60" x 60" x 2" (152.5 cm x 152.5 cm x 5 cm)
Unframed, ready to hang. Sides of panel varnished to show natural wood.
